Ochota Barrels x Gentle Folk
Gamay- Pinot noir
No changes in the make up of the 2023 wine with another tiny harvest in the Adelaide Hills. These two vineyards are the last harvested at both wineries from the Piccadilly Valley, and it seemed most appropriate to combine what we picked and have a nice family lunch. Whole bunches, neutral oak and a cool vintage resulted in a wine with a spice, amaro, soft red fruit and life energy pairing beautifully with food on the table and family by your side.
Vineyard: Virgara, Piccadilly Gamay/ Monomeith, Ashton Pinot noir
Planted: 1998 (Virgara)/ 1990 (Monomeith)
Elevation: 520m Virgara/ 530m Monomeith
Aspect: North (Virgara)/ East/West (Monomeith)
Soil: Quartz over sandstone.
Vinification: Over a very long lunch, 100% whole bunches were tipped into an open top fermenter and foot-stomped by small children. After two weeks of tasting and daily foot-stomping, the wine was basket pressed to two neutral French oak barrels, followed by lunch. The wine was in oak for 13 months before being bottled, followed by another great lunch. Just the way we always imagined it.
